THE RAN ORTNER PROJECT
An Apprenticeship
I worked as the personal photographer and archivist of painter Ran Ortner; my copy-work of his painting Element No.5 was featured on the cover of Luxury Magazine. The twelve-page profile also included my portraits of Ran himself at his studio and apartment in Brooklyn.
It was altogether an exceptional learning experience to shadow an established artist: cataloging his work, documenting his career development, and at times, strolling together through the streets outside his studio in conversation about his love of motorcycles, his reverence for waves, and his commitment to the canvas; our communication helped foster his positive working mindset, making room for his personal world to inform his professional goals.
I was fortunate to document Ran's first major gallery opening, hosted by the historic Robert Miller Gallery in Chelsea, NY.
